How to Trace Mobile Numbers

With the rapid growth of mobile phone usage in recent years, we have often observed that the mobile phone has become a part of many illegal and criminal activities. So in most cases, tracing the mobile number becomes a vital part of the investigation process. Also sometimes we just want to trace a mobile number for reasons like annoying prank calls, blackmails, unknown number in a missed call list or similar.

Even though it is not possible to trace the number back to the caller, it is possible to trace it to the location of the caller and also find the network operator. Just have a look at this page on tracing Indian mobile numbers from Wikipedia. Using the information provided on this page, it is possible to certainly trace any mobile number from India and find out the location (state/city) and network operator (mobile operator) of the caller. All you need for this is only the first 4-digit of the mobile number. In this Wiki page you will find all the mobile number series listed in a nice tabular column where they are categorized based on mobile operator and the zone (state/city). This Wiki page is updated regularly so as to provide up-to-date information on newly added mobile number series and operators. I have used this page many a time and have never been disappointed.

If you would like to use a simpler interface where in you can just enter the target mobile number and trace the desired details, you can try this link from Numbering Plans. Using this link, you can trace any number in the world.

By using the information in this article, you can only know “where” the call is from and not “who” the caller is. Only the mobile operator is able to tell you ”who” the caller is. So if you’re in an emergency and need to find out the actual person behind the call, I would recommend that you file a complaint and take the help of police. I hope this information has helped you!

Android nears 50 percent global market share: Canalys Q2 2011 report

Android has the Lion's share (pun intended) of the U.S. smartphone market, at 29 percent, but its global market share makes that look silly, according to a new report by Canalys. That report says that Android has 48 percent, nearly one-half, of the world smartphone market.

Market research firm Canalys' Q2 2011 report also stated that during Q2, 107.7 million smartphones shipped globally, which represents 73 percent growth year-over-y6ear. Of those, 39.8 million smartphones were shipped in APAC, and 35 million units in EMEA. 32.9 million smartphone units were shipped in the Americas.

During Q2, Android shipments hit 51.9 million, growing 379 percent compared year-over-year. The popularity of the platform in Asia was amazing. For example, in South Korea, Android captured 85 percent market share. That makes extreme sense since that's the home of Samsung. Meanwhile, in Taiwan, Android grabbed 71 percent share.

379 percent growth is amazing, but down from Q1's year-over-year growth. Canalys' report for Q4 2010 showed 615 percent growth from Q4 2009 to Q4 2010.
At the end of 2010, Symbian was in second place with 30.6 percent, but in Canalys latest report, that's no longer the case. iOS has risen to the second spot in global rankings, with 19 percent market share.

The big losers might be RIM and Microsoft. RIM dropped from 14.4 percent to 12 percent globally. Meanwhile, Microsoft, despite its brand-spanking new Windows Phone is still dropping. It shipped less than 1.5 million Windows Phone-based smartphones during Q2, amounting to just 1 percent market share, which is a 52 percent drop year-over-year.

Nokia savior might be Microsoft. Microsoft's savior might be Nokia. Since the two are known to be partnering on Windows Phone-based Nokia phones, the two are depending on each other to restore their declining fortunes.

Meanwhile, Android keeps skyrocketing globally, and iOS continues to trundle along, nicely. Whither webOS?

Dell Venue Pro Coming to Microsoft Stores on November 8, Dell Online on November 15

Updated: Updated the post to include the internal image verifying the release dates!

The Dell Venue Pro will be available from Microsoft on November 8th and from Dell on November 15th according to information we just received, though no word on pricing was available. The Microsoft channel likely includes their limited selection of retail stores and their online offerings while Dell will sell the device directly from Dell.com. Having gone “hands on” with the Dell Venue Pro at Microsoft launch event (though I say “hands on” sparingly considering we weren’t allowed to handle the device) I can say it was incredibly responsive and the Dell representatives looked to be making out pretty well on the Qwerty keyboard. This device will definitely appeal to the Windows Phone 7 fan that opts away from the HD7 and it’s larger 4.3-inch screen.

Check out the “hands on” video below to take a closer look at the Dell Venue Pro.

However, after that only the Desire Android 2.2 update was the most talked about. Now since the Desire Android 2.2 update has already been rolled out or is being rolled out in certain regions, the company has moved on to the small brother of the Desire – the Legend.

HTC Legend

HTC has confirmed via their Facebook account that they will be rolling out the Android 2.2 update for the Legend in the ‘coming weeks’. Owners of unbranded/unlocked Legend will be among the first one to get the update with operator locked owners getting the update once it has been approved by their carrier.

It’s nice to see HTC offering Android 2.2 update for the Legend. Being a Legend owner myself, I had almost given up hope of the phone getting the Froyo update.

Samsung Galaxy S knocks iPhone 4 out of Japan's No. 1 spot

Samsung has a hit in Japan, albeit with something already a hit globally. The Samsung Galaxy S smartphone, only one week old in Japan, has reached the top of the sales charts. It knocked off former No. 1, the iPhone 4. The report came via Japanese market research firm BCN.

The iPhone 4 was at the top of the charts for 18 weeks. While it was the first week the Galaxy S was offered for sale, it is also, therefore, only one week's data. Additionally, if the two different iPhone 4 models (16GB, 32GB) are added together, the iPhone still has the edge.

It was the 32GB model which was the more popular of the two iPhone 4 versions. It remains to be seen if Samsung can sustain this momentum or not, but "conquering" cell phone-living Japan in your first week is a great first step.

Samsung Galaxy S Android 2.2 Update Starts Rolling Out In The U.K

After so many delays and ‘pull back’, the Samsung Galaxy S Android 2.2 update has started rolling out officially from today in the U.K. This piece of news was confirmed by Samsung UK tweet. The Android 2.2 update will continue until the end of November. However, the update won’t be an OTA (Over-The-Air) one.

Users who want to update their phone to Android 2.2 need to use the Samsung KIES software to do so. They can download the latest version of KIES from here.

Samsung had earlier released an official Android 2.2 update for the Galaxy S but the firmware but so buggy and slow that they had to pull it back. I have already flashed this new official firmware on my Galaxy S and I must say it’s great. The phone is smooth and there are no lags at all.

Hopefully, Samsung will roll out the Android 2.2 firmware update to other countries soon.

Nokia C6-01

The back of the phone packs an 8MP snapper with auto-focus and dual-LED flash to assist night photography. The C6-01 is capable of recording videos in 720p resolution as well. The C6-01 is one of the greenest and eco-friendliest handset from Nokia as well. The phone has been made from bio plastics and recycled metals. Readers should not confuse the C6-01 with Nokia’s C6-00. The latter is a slide-out QWERTY based S60v5 phone.

Mobile Number Portability Is (Wait For It) Delayed Again

This is the third time mobile number portability in India has been delayed. Previously scheduled to roll out by November 1st in Haryana, the Department of Telecom has said that the service will be in effect by November 25th. They've said that all the networks are placed in order to implement MNP but haven't given a reason for the delay. "Though there had been some delay in the launch of the service, it had been ensured that the service was provided to all subscribers sans any technical glitches," said Sachin Pilot, Minister of State for Communications and Information and Technology.
The truck's not stopping here yet

The plan is still as planned though. MNP will be implemented in Haryana first and the rest of the country is divided into 22 zones which are clustered into 11 service areas. MNP will roll out over these as well over the course of a few months.
