  • According to a study by Canada-based media monitoring and analytics firm Sysomos, 71 per cent of all tweets are ignored, 23 per cent get a reply and just 6 per cent get retweeted. The study also reveals that 96.9 per cent of all replies and 92.4 per cent of all retweets happen within the first hour of the original tweet being published.

For the study, Sysomos researchers examined 1.2 billion tweets sent in August and September 2009. Examining the distance between an original tweet and the replies it attracts, the researchers found that of all tweets that generated a reply, 85 per cent have only one reply and another 10.7 per cent attracted a reply to the original reply.
